Tightwire with Anne Weshinskey
| All of us strive to find balance within our lives. Work, friends, family, health, spirituality our well-being depends on balance. Being centered physically is a possibility that can be created through practice and which can lead to the realization of balance in all other aspects of life |
Instructor Anne Weshinskey, a former professional low tightwire walker, fosters the development of physical balance by teaching tightwire basics. Tips on alignment, core engagement, concentration, walking styles, practice drills, and trick progression are covered in the beginning class. Students who become comfortable on the wire will be coached on more advanced tricks, the ability to fall, and rigging. Classes consist mainly of taking passes on the low wire and some exercises on the floor in between turns on the wire. Email wondercabinet@earthlink.net for reservations or more information.

Foot Juggling Workshop with Anika Antipodist!
This two-hour workshop will be an introduction to the art of foot juggling, or ‘antipodism’. It is possible to foot juggle anything, but during these two hours we will focus on two different props: the spinning carpets and the cylinder. Both of these props are ideal for beginning students of foot juggling. The goal of this workshop will be to provide a foundation for anyone, whether you are interested in performing, or if you just want to try something new. No prior juggling or acrobatic experience is necessary. The only requirement is that you be willing to drop things and to appreciate the fun and satisfaction to be found through dedicated practice.
The class will start with a short demonstration of antipodism; the next 15 to 20 minutes will be spent getting in touch with the body parts and muscles which do most of the work in foot juggling: The abdominal muscles and the hamstrings. We will perform a series of stretches and conditioning movements to activate these muscles for the juggling tricks. The main part of the workshop will be learning the basic movements with the carpet and the cylinder. Much of the time will be spent on your back with your legs in the air, so this is not ideal for people with back pain.
NOTE: Images shown are of a pro (instructor Anika Antipodist) in action and not indicative of what students in this beginners' class will be attempting/learning! |
